Marshall Serves as U.S. Delegate and Private Sector Representative Germantown, MD – WeatherBug®, the leading provider of live, local weather information services, announced today that Robert S. Marshall, President and CEO of AWS Convergence Technologies, the parent company of WeatherBug, was invited to the World Meteorological Organization's fifteenth Congress in Geneva to serve as a U.S. delegate and representative of the private sector. Marshall brings to the U.S. delegation a perspective on the role of private sector companies in supporting the mission of public weather services around the globe, particularly relating to leadership and cooperation in weather, climate, hydrology and weather resources related to environmental issues; all focused on the economic well being and safety of all nations. AWS, also known as WeatherBug, was founded in 1993 after Marshall identified the critical need for high quality, relevant weather information to be acquired for forecasting and alerting of severe weather. Today, WeatherBug owns and operates the world's largest network of professional grade surface weather observation stations. The live weather information gathered from the WeatherBug network of 8,000 observation stations is streamed to millions of consumers and businesses daily to help them make informed decisions for protecting lives and property. WeatherBug has established a pioneering private/public partnership with the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) National Weather Service (NWS). The relationship, formed in 2001, opened up the live data from the WeatherBug's proprietary network to NWS to enhance NWS' ability to provide accurate forecasts, warnings and support for emergency management operations. Marshall's primary role at the conference is to demonstrate the importance of private/public relationships and how these relationships create a strong synergy in leveraging technology, expertise and funds to bring critical solutions to nations around the globe. "A primary mission of the WMO is to support the establishment of a global observation network to collect and share data in order to create better forecasting and alerts that will help economies strive and protect lives and property.
